Vice Presidential Candidate Sarah Palin

Did anyone watch the Republican National Convention tonight? I passed up going to bed on time, so I could watch the speech that was being predicted to be the most watched VP candidate speech ever given. I was really looking forward to hearing what Palin had to say in response to the attacks by her and McCain's opponents. She gave an amazing speech! Now I can understand why the Republican party selected her! She proved to America (during her debut speech) that she is more than qualified to become Vice President of the United States and she carried herself with class and a great sense of humor! I'd vote for her if she was running against Obama! I like John McCain and I was already planning on voting for him, but now I feel (with Palin as his running mate) he has even more to offer our country than before. Here are a few quotes from Palin's speech:
"Here's how I look at the choice Americans face in this election," she said. "In politics, there are some candidates who use change to promote their careers. And then there are those like John McCain, who use their careers to promote change."

Palin praised the senator as “a man who wore the uniform of this country for 22 years and refused to break faith with those troops in Iraq who have now brought victory within sight.”

“As the mother of one of those troops, that is exactly the kind of man I want as commander-in-chief,” said Palin, whose 19-year-old son is a soldier scheduled to deploy to Iraq next week on September 11th.
I was also surprised to hear that Senator Joe Lieberman gave a speech earlier at the Republican Convention urging Democrats to cross party lines and cast their votes for John McCain. If any of you don't remember, Joe Lieberman was Al Gore's running mate in the 2000 Election. He's not just your everyday average politician. This is a man who the Democratic Party felt strongly enough about to put next in line to the presidency, so I don't think his opinion should be taken lightly! I'll close with a couple quotes from Senator Lieberman's speech:

“Only one leader has shown the courage and the capability to rise above the smallness of our politics to get big things done for our country and our people,” Lieberman said. “And that leader is John McCain.” By contrast, Obama, the Democratic nominee, “is a gifted and eloquent young man who can do great things for our country in the years ahead,” he said, “but eloquence is no substitute for a record — not in these tough times.”

“John McCain’s whole life testifies to a great truth: Being a Democrat or a Republican is important. But it is not more important than being an American,” he said.
